Nika’s Global AAC outreach brings donated AAC products including speech-generating devices, mounting systems and other AT to countries where neither public schools nor health insurance are required to pay for it. Donated AAC comes from a variety of sources within the USA including manufacturers, schools, CP centers, speech and hearing clinics, and ALS Associations across the country. A number of these sources maintain their own AAC loaner libraries and when they upgrade to new products, Nika receives donations of products that are still functional. They are cleaned and given a second useful life in places such as India, Sri Lanka, southeast Asia and Central and South America.

The School Year of Core Words series was conceptualized and created by Nika Board Member Michaela Sullivan, and two pre-professional SLP students, Beth Lytle and Alisa Lego.  The series has two levels of monthly vocabulary words along with ideas, resources, and materials to provide a framework for implementing augmentative communication throughout the year. Every growing, it has now been adapted for Spanish speaking countries and continues to grow!

Through generous grants, the Nika Project has been proudly working alongside Marin Ventures to build accessibility for all adults including music, art, communication, exercise, and social skills. Local University programs have been volunteering their time and expertise in assisting this amazing organization to acquire the tools and training they need for everyone to be successful and participate!

The Nika Project is proud to continue it’s mentorship program to provide training and support for graduate students in speech pathology and special education programs and specifically focus on bilingual AAC training and cultural awareness and responsiveness.
