This summer, the Nika Project is excited about collaborating with Comunicatea, a parent non-profit association formed by families with children with complex communication needs. They are committed to publicizing the AAC in Brazil through our social networks and outreach initiatives. They seek to contribute to reducing the gaps between up-to-date knowledge and good practices to be a way to bring information about AAC to many people and families so that anyone can exercise their right to communication!
We will be working in close collaboration with the Federal University of Pernambuco and schools within the public school system to bring augmentative communication best practices to families, teachers, and students.
In addition, the Nika Project will be assisting in establishing the Portuguese version of School Year of Core as a resource throughout Brazil, developing a robust language curriculum that will be available to everyone as an invaluable resource! San Francisco State University has already been responsible for creating the School Year of Core - Bilingüe for Spanish-speaking children as a resource for teaching core vocabulary words.
