In 2019, the Nika Project and Perucano Institute teamed up and delivered a week day of training at CEBE Iquitos special needs school in Iquitos, Peru. Perucano Institute hosts organizations that collaborate on the facilitation of professional development trainings that support movement toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations – Agenda 2030.
Cindy Evans from The Nika Project lead workshops with educators and therapists, as well as facilitated activities with students alongside their teachers. The workshops were offered after school and trained teachers how to use mobile technology to create digital books, social stories, creating vocabulary and literacy activities, and the concept of communication systems for students with complex communication needs to reach their fullest potential. The workshops and daily activities at the school were very successful. The students were beautiful and took to the technology right away. The CEBE Iquitos teachers were awesome and really engaged with the training! It was also National Teacher Appreciation Day while Cindy was there, so she was able to celebrate with the school with traditional dance and song.
The Nika Project will embark on a two week Peruvian project in Iquitos and Cusco this summer. We will be training special educators in AAC and Assistive technology at CEBE Iquitos (https://www.facebook.com/cebe.iquitos ) and CEBE Don Jose de San Martin in Cusco (https://cebedonjosedesanmartin.edu.pe/). We are partnering up with Instituto Perucano (https://www.perucanoinstitute.org/ ) and San Francisco State University internship project called AAC for ALL.
help us in our journey
Project Peru would LOVE your help with our cause! The beautiful schools, teachers and children in both Iquitos and Cusco are in great need of supplies and materials. Our students and staff will be taking sustainable tools and demonstrating use with students who are challenged with learning in traditional ways. Thank you for all of your help!
